This December was a marathon of work and holiday revelry, and despite the upcoming New Year’s Eve festivities, I find myself firmly in a post-holiday state of mind. I plan to spend the next week regrouping, organizing and doing a little personal and professional planning for 2014 — along with moving into a new computer, a project I hope will go smoothly! I’m also already leaning into some post-holiday detoxing here and there, including this delicious and easy green juice. It’s tart, with Granny Smith apples leading the way, and a definite basil edge.
Recipe: Green Apple & Basil Juice
2 Granny Smith apples
6-8 large fresh basil leaves
Prep the fruit by cutting the apples into wedges that will fit into your juicer tube. Also cut the peel and white pith off the lemon, so all you have left is the flesh. Feed the ingredients, along with the basil leaves through the juicer. (I tend to alternate apple and lemon pieces with the basil leaves, to avoid any leafy clogs.)
You can strain the juice, but I tend to like the foam and little bits of fruit that gather at the top of the glass. Plus I feel like I’m getting some of that good fiber that straining would eliminate! Makes 1 serving, about 10 ounces.
